“Guys...no matter what you think, trust me, you can dance! After a very bad experience with a different dancing academy (bachata, not salsa though), I thought I am an "natural anti-talent" :) However, thanks to Jo and her My Little Havana academy, I now not only know I can dance but I actually really enjoy it! It is obvious that Jo loves what she does and she is able to transfer her enthusiasm to students!”

“I have been learning Cuban salsa with My Little Havana (MLH) for about a year now, I have thoroughly enjoyed the time learning from Joanne. The classes are fun and the people I have met have been amazing, at class and also at organised socials. Joanne always makes sure everyone in class feels confident and capable with the curriculum from basic to advanced moves, always going the extra step to ensure this. I am now learning in the intermediate classes, learning a lot and loving it. Cuban salsa with MLH is learning with a welcoming community of positive people!”

“Jo Anne has managed to create something really special at My Little Havana, making them the leaders in Cuban salsa and Latin dance in Brisbane.

The teachers are some of the most experienced dancers who practice what they preach, and demonstrate a deep love and understanding of Cuban salsa through integration of its history and culture.

The class setting is very welcoming and fun to learn in- feeling more like a community rather than a school. Family vibes with a focus on clear explanation and demonstration of proper technique. What more could you ask for?”

“The only thing better than moving to music is grooving to it. Jo’s positive energy encourages people to follow her moves while her knowledge and experience in dancing get them to stick around and learn how to groove. She is an amazing teacher, dancer and person. One of the first dancers I ran across when I moved to Brisbane and definitely would come back for more workshops.”

My Little Havana is a fun, friendly place to learn authentic Cuban and other Latin styles! Great quality of instruction- important details are not just glanced over, but patiently taught, and includes not just steps and body movement but the history and meaning behind everything as well, which is really cool!"

“My first experience ever at a dance school and was worried I would suck, Jo and the group have been super welcoming and really friendly they made me feel like part of the team, Jo is an exceptional teacher, she has the ability to teach you sometimes complex moves with a lot of ease and in a way that you will be able to learn easily oh and the girl can also move!! Huge admiration and kudos, if you’ve never tried dancing and want to learn something new or put yourself out there, this is the safest and most welcoming space I’ve seen!”

— Lili Sanchez, March 2019

“I’ve had the most incredible experience learning Beginner Salsa with Jo-Anne! She has made a daunting first time dance experience relaxing, fun and so much more than just a dance class. Can’t wait to try some more classes.”

I joined my Little Havana two years ago. There is no week without dancing at this amazing academy except if i have work commitments (trips). I love Cuban salsa style, specially Rueda de Casino because there are so many combos and different dancing partners in the same song!! Recently i have found Song and Afro-cuban styles very entertaining. My Little Havana is one of the very few places where to learn them!!!

I found in dancing at My Little Havana an excellent way to balance life: I have got new friends, my soul feels happy when dancing and i enjoy learning nee dancing styles because I can understand better how our bodies move. Jo Anne is an amazing instructor, friend and human being!! She is very passionate with what she does!!!
Highly recommended academy (10/10)

“MLH is an amazing community with a dedication to improving dance, culture and human connection. When you come to a class it feels like you are visiting the beautiful family you have chosen and the techniques and skills you can develop here are second to none. Whatever aspect you’re looking to gain or improve, MLH is for YOU! Jo and all the members are always welcoming and if you don’t take the chance to experience this, I feel like you will truly be missing out!”

“I joined My Little Havana in 2017 having already learned cuban salsa for half a year in Townsville. Turns out I wasn't only joining dance classes, but was actually signing up to be a part of a fantastic community of like-minded and enthusiastic dancers of all levels and of all backgrounds. Since attending their classes, I feel my cuban salsa has improved significantly not only from a technical perspective, but also musically. This is because MLH teaches with a holistic view in mind - they make sure their students have an understanding of the fascinating culture behind cuban salsa, which greatly assists with improving musicality - something I have always struggled with! Finally the teachers are second to none - they aren't just world-class dancers (E.g. getting invited on stage to help Cuban Flex teach, whaaat!), but they can actually teach effectively, which often is not the case. Most importantly, they are enthusiastic and supportive but not afraid to dish out constructive criticism and helpful pointers on how to improve (unless they are teaching with a view of the sunset, in which case, can become distracted... :D). Overall, I'm having the time of my life dancing with the My Little Havana community and would highly recommend them as the premiere Brisbane Cuban salsa dance school for anyone interested in learning Cuban, or any of the other styles they teach for that matter!”

“I joined My Little Havana(MLH) about a year ago following Cuban style salsa, but what I have earned was not just technical variety of salsa dance skill but also the beautiful circle of people in the academy which made me feel Brisbane and MLH is my home now. A huge thank you to our wonderful teacher and friend Jo Anne and academy teachers, fellow dancers for the amazing year!”

“I joined the school in June 2017 when I first moved to Brisbane and have loved every minute! After falling in love with cuban dancing whilst travelling through Cuba, this school has recreated everything my heart desired! It is extremely welcoming, there is a wonderful sense of community and I love my classes, social catch ups and even performances. This school creates an incredible environment, it has literally changed my life! Keep up the amazing work Jo, we love you!”

I had a great time at the party! It was my first time to discover the salsa dancers around Brisbane and this experience was definetly a great start! People on the dance floor are kind and open, always smiling! The music is great, drinks & food is refreshing.. the most I liked about this party that everyone came for one very good reason: Dancing Cuban Salsa! Thank you guys!

Writing this review brings a tear to my eye.....tears of joy. Having zero dance experience, I have been welcomed with open arms.....as a beginner you feel nurtured to grow on your quest to learn. Inadequate feelings are slowly stripped away by Jo's humour & warmth.  Persistent buggers too! They'll never give up on the group until we have 'nailed it'.
The best dance teaches I could have ever wished for!!!!! *Expertise Extraordinars

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
